RAY BLACK JR. WRAPS UP ADVENTURE OUT WEST WITH STOP IN CALIFORNIA
FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. (March 16, 2016) – As NASCAR Goes West prepares to make its final stop this weekend at Auto Club Speedway in California, XFINITY Series driver Ray Black Jr. is looking to finish up his west coast adventure by camping outdoors and visiting Hollywood. The driver of the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet has spent all three weeks of the west coast swing on a road trip from Las Vegas to Phoenix to Fontana.
Black has taken full advantage of NASCAR’s annual trip out west – exploring the desert around Las Vegas, hiking around Phoenix and camping in California. He also spent time bonding with his ScubaLife crew away from the track, something that may not have happened as easily if it weren’t for this three-week adventure.
“Road-tripping across the southwest has been great!” said Black. “Just seeing the country and all the scenery was really cool. I’ve only been out this way a handful of times, so it was nice to have the opportunity to take it all in. I’ve gotten to do some fun stuff and hang with the team away from the race track. It’s been fun!”
With less than a week remaining in his West Coast Swing, Black looks to finish it up by spending some time camping just outside of Fontana, Calif. He is also scheduled to attend a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live, giving him a chance to explore Hollywood before hitting the Auto Club Speedway for the first time.
“I’ve been to the LA area once before,” Black explained. “I got to see Hollywood a little bit and go to the beach. I really liked Huntington Beach, so I’d like to try to fit in a trip there. Overall, I’m just glad I stayed out west the entire time instead of going back and forth between races. It has given me the opportunity to explore a lot more than we normally do on race weekends.”
As Black prepares to make his debut start at Auto Club Speedway, he will rely on his NASCAR racing experience to help him adjust quickly to the 2-mile track.
“Auto Club Speedway looks like a lot of fun!” said Black. “It looks flat with a lot of room for three and four wide action. I think my experience racing at Michigan last season should help me figure it out. The layouts seem to be really similar. I’m looking forward to meeting all those new fans too. These west coast races have been packed with fans, so it’s been an exciting energy to be around!”
The TreatMyClot.com 300 by Janssen is set to go green on Saturday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. MRN will be providing live radio coverage of the event as well.
